◎ Program Notes:
On August 13, 2017, one of the two school-owned buffaloes gave birth to a baby male buffalo, later named Ben, on the campus of the Taipei National University of the Arts. Since then, the grass field where all three buffaloes live has become my favorite place on campus. Visiting them has become my ritual before going to work. By looking at their eyes, somehow I feel I am able to communicate with them, even though I don’t speak their language.
Like every baby, little Ben grows very fast. He gets excited with every little thing, and he is very friendly to everyone who pays them a visit. I always see curiosity and enthusiasm in his eyes. He reminded me that breathing is very important in life. Our bodies do need to rest before making the next step. Instead of being a story of little Ben, “Speaking Eyes” is actually about communicating with my inner self.
“Speaking Eyes,” dedicated to the Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA), was premiered by conductor, Fusao Kajima and the TNUA Orchestra at the National Concert Hall (Taipei, Taiwan) on May 14, 2018.
◎ 樂曲解說：
2017年8月13日，國立臺北藝術大學的校牛奧米加咆哮獸在鷺鷥草原上生下了一隻小公牛。從隔日開始，鷺鷥草原便成為了我讓心靈歇息的去處，拜訪他們也成為了我與自己心靈對話的儀式。我不懂水牛的語言，但透過目光交會，總覺得我和他們在某程度上是可以溝通的。小牛一暝大一寸，每個生命的當下也是瞬眼間就消逝了。是感傷與恐懼，也是未知的期待。他們提醒了我，生命是需要呼吸的，生活是需要空間的，吸滿吃飽睡足後，才能好好地跨出下一步。 藝術家的創作是脫離不了自身生活的，不僅來自所見所聞，更是所思所想。與其說這是個小牛的故事，倒不如說是與自我的對話。Let the story continue...
