The idea of this composition, Lego City, came from my first impression of Hong Kong’s urban scene. Even though I have been to other metropolitan areas of the world, the amount of high rises and the degree of density still formed a very surreal image to me. The most spectacular scene is certainly the view of the Victoria Habour. I still remember my first time standing next to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and looking at the skyscrapers on the Hong Kong Island side. For a long time, I had the illusion that I was a piece of human figure living in the game of Lego. Similar to connecting different pieces of Lego bricks to build a city, the composition consists of different melodic and rhythmic figures that are interlocking together. With running notes and variations of rhythmic patterns, I also tried to portrait the fast pace of life, the energy, and the excitement in Hong Kong.
